Q&A

How does this work? You’re based in Singapore, but doing brand orientation and cultural sense-making for East Asia?
Yes. It works because Singapore is just far enough from East Asia to be outside its direct spheres of influence, yet near enough to be culturally similar.
 
Any knowledge gap is further bridged by deep immersion, prolonged acclimatisation, and constant accumulation of the region’s history and civilisational culture.
 
This outsider-insider clarity is best for the work that we will be embarking upon together.
The region’s political history is the elephant in the room. How will you navigate the intricacies?
Singapore is politically stable and does not particularly pander to the East nor West (we are most concerned about maintaining the conditions that enable the continual survival of our tiny island nation).
 
But most importantly, we choose to remain objective and acknowledge what has happened as students of history. This should be readily apparent in our Cultural Briefings. We do not whitewash the past, nor glorify/vilify any party for any agenda.
 
Let’s set aside our differences for the benefit of our shared humanity — and your business.
How long will each engagement take? What can a brand expect to receive at the end of it?
A full Brand Sensing cycle can take up to 5 months. The sense-making stage usually lasts about 2–3 months, and orientation another 1–2 months. Sense-making involves multiple onsite conversations with founders and those who have inherited the stewardship of a brand.
 
At the end of the engagement, brands will receive a bilingual long-form articulation (commonly in English and Chinese) — a Brand Portrait, which is a comprehensive worldview capturing the texture, lines, and everything in-between in a live document.
 
The long arc, which is a standalone long-term engagement on a retainer basis, is where Studio Plough helps brands to calibrate their character drift over time.

Our pricing structure is competitively benchmarked against management consultancies. And we fully consider the stage and maturity of your brand. This applies to both the Brand Sensing cycle (sense-making and orientation), as well as the long arc.
